History

Deep tech is a name used from around 2011 for records that sit between deep house and tech house s1. It has the warm bass and soft chords of deep house, but the crisp drums and simple structure of tech house s1. The term was used mostly by DJs, shops and download stores, not by the artists themselves. So it is a marketing label as much as a scene s2. Green Velvet's 'Bigger Than Prince' (2013) was a record the scene loved, with a spoken vocal over a heavy groove s1. Hot Since 82's 'Knee Deep In Louise' (2013) and Dusky's 'Careless' (2013) were also widely played s1. The sound was common in London clubs and at Ibiza parties in the mid-2010s s2. Because the name was loose, many different records were sold under it s2. The name is mostly used by shops and download stores. DJs use it to describe records that are too warm for techno but too tough for deep house s2.
