Dutch House
A loud Dutch club style with hard electronic drums and simple, catchy riffs.
History
Dutch house is a club style from the Netherlands that became popular in the mid-2000s s1. It is also called dirty Dutch, a name used by DJ Chuckie for his parties and radio shows s2. The sound is built on hard, dry drum hits and simple, repeated synthesizer riffs s1. It often uses short shouted words and heavy, distorted bass s1. Fedde Le Grand's 'Put Your Hands Up 4 Detroit' (2006) was a large international hit s1. Sidney Samson's 'Riverside' (2009) and Afrojack's 'Pacha on Acid' (2009) were also widely played s1. Dutch producers became some of the most in-demand remixers and DJs of the time s2. The style later fed into big room house and the mainstream EDM sound of the 2010s s1. Dutch producers also became known for remixing pop songs in the same hard, simple style. The sound was played heavily at the Amsterdam Dance Event and on Dutch radio s1.
