Electro Techno
Techno built on electro beats and machine funk, revived in the 2010s.
History
Electro techno mixes techno with the beats and sounds of electro s1. Electro began in the early 1980s with drum machines and robot-like funk s2. Detroit techno grew partly from that sound s2. In the 2010s, a new group of producers brought electro back into techno s1s3. Blawan, Objekt and DJ Stingray 313 are well-known names s1. The music uses broken robot beats, heavy bass and machine sounds s1. It is more broken and funky than most four-to-the-floor techno s1. Electro techno is different from the older electro genre s2. It adds techno's drive, darkness and longer structures s2. It is often played in clubs next to both techno and electro s1. The style keeps the connection between techno and its electro roots alive s2. Many electro techno records come out on small independent labels s1. The sound also appears in drum and bass and breakbeat scenes s2.
