History
Makina is a Spanish style of hardcore techno s1. It began in Valencia in the early 1990s s1. It grew from a local sound called bakalao, which was played in Valencian clubs in the late 1980s s1. The music mixes bouncy techno, hard trance and Eurodance s1. Its tempo is usually 150 to 180 beats per minute s1. In 1991 the Spanish producer Chimo Bayo released 'Asi me gusta a mi' s1. The track was a hit in Europe and helped the style grow s1. Makina was very popular in Spain from 1995 to 1997 s1. Many makina singles reached number one in the Spanish chart s1. The group EX-3 had two number-one singles in 1995 and 1996 s1. The sound later became popular in North East England and Scotland s1s3. After some big clubs closed, it was partly replaced by scouse house there s1. Japanese producers also make makina today s2.
