Ghetto House
Raw Chicago house with simple drum machines and often explicit vocals.
History
Ghetto house, also called booty house, is a form of house music from Chicago s1. It was recognised as its own style from about 1992 s1. The music uses simple 808 and 909 drum machines and has little or no effects s1. It often has a four-to-the-floor kick or a skipping kick s1. The sound includes 808 and 909 clap and tom sounds s1. Vocals are often short, repeated and sexually explicit s1. The templates came from Chicago house records such as Cajmere's 'It's Time for the Percolator' s1. The label Dance Mania released many of the well-known records s2. DJ Deeon, DJ Funk, DJ Milton, DJ Slugo and Parris Mitchell were central artists s1s2s3. In the late 1990s a faster version called juke developed in Chicago s1. Ghetto house is the rawest and most direct form of the Chicago house family s2. It has a small but loyal audience around the world s2.
