History

Ghettotech is a form of electronic music from Detroit s1s2. It mixes ghetto house from Chicago with electro, Detroit techno and Miami bass s1. The music has four-on-the-floor rhythms and is fast, usually 145 to 160 beats per minute s1. Vocals are often repeated, crude and explicit s1. The sound is gritty and raw rather than polished s1. Ghettotech began as a DJing style in the late 1980s s1. DJs mixed jungle, ghetto house, hip hop, R&B, electro and Detroit techno s1. The fast mixing of Jeff Mills inspired many of them s1. The music of 2 Live Crew was also an influence s1. DJ Godfather and DJ Assault became the well-known producers s1. Labels such as Twilight 76 and Databass released the records s1. A fast Detroit dance called the jit goes with the music s1. Ghettotech is still played at Detroit festivals s1.
