History

Bass house appeared in the mid-2010s s1. It mixes a house beat with very heavy, low bass and the shuffled drums of UK garage and bass music s1. American DJ AC Slater started the label Night Bass in 2014 and became a central figure s2. The style grew through clubs in London and Los Angeles s1. Valentino Khan's 'Deep Down Low' (2015) was a big bass house record s1. Wax Motif's 'Bunda' (2016) and Chris Lake's 'Operator (Ring Ring)' (2016) were also widely played s1. Bass house often uses a bouncing bassline as the main hook instead of a melody s1. It is still made, and it also shaped parts of later tech house and pop dance music s2. The style is often played at the end of a club night, when crowds want the heaviest sound s1. Some producers mix it with tech house and UK garage in the same set s2.
